Saturday Morning In Titans Tower

Some people get up early on Saturdays to watch cartoons or exercise. Others like to sleep in until noon or later. Tim is neither of those people. He woke up early simply because he did not need as much sleep. And after some flying to soak up the morning sun, the clone Titan has made his way to the kitchen. Tim doesn't need to eat but he knows it makes things easier for him and has enjoyed sampling new flavors.

He's currently frowning at the toaster while holding a frozen waffle in one hand and the box of waffles in the other. After a few moments of reading the instructions, he looks between the toaster and the waffle several times before putting it in the slot and carefully pressing down on the tab. Taking another waffle from the box, his eyes flash red and he begins to cook that one with his heat vision.

Carefully toasting his waffle with heat vision while apparently racing the toaster, Tim doesn't look up as Ilya walks in. He heard him coming. Remaining silent he eventually lowers the golden brown disc and frowns. Seconds later the one in the toaster pops up.

"I knew that I was faster," he mutters. The clone then turns a curious expression on Ilya. "Good morning. I thought that the topping for waffles was maple syrup and a square of butter?"

"That's for demonstration purposes, you don't have to have waffles that way all the time." replies Ilya with a laugh. He walks over to Tim's side and takes the waffle, and then places the other one on the plate as well. He then fetches peanut butter and strawberry jam, making up the aforementioned sandwich and offers it to Tim.

"Demonstration?" Tim is just confused by the need to demonstrate waffles. He watches Ilya silently and unblinking as the meal is prepared. When presented back, Tim takes it carefully and examines it. Eventually he takes a bite. "This tastes good," he declares once he's swallowed the first bite.

"They have to set up the pictures on the box, you see." replies Ilya patiently. He then smiles, and grabs the sandwich, taking a bite himself before he says "Of course it tastes good. You really can't go wrong with peanut butter and jelly."

"Oh. Advertisement," Tim murmurs. He blinks when he suddenly finds empty space where his sandwich had been and gives Ilya a confused head-tilt. "Why is that?"

"It's just a combination that many surface dwellers grow up from childhood eating. We don't have sandwiches in Posidonis, but it's a taste that I've acquired since coming to land." Ilya says. He then offers Tim back his peanut butter-and-waffle sandwich, and then goes about finding something for himself.

"Have you ever heard the saying 'goes together like peanut butter and jelly' when used to describe two people who get along well?" he asks.

"I imagine you would not. Bread does not last long underwater," Tim remarks as he takes his sandwich back. He eats it silently, paying no mind to the fact that someone else took a bite. Because his mouth is full when he's asked the question, Tim just shakes his head no.

"It could be said about our team. Everyone on the Titans go together like peanut butter and jelly." Ilya then says. He pulls out some juice and pours a glass, and then goes to start toasting himself some waffles as well. "All this talk is making me want one of my own." he says, laughing.

Tim pauses, trying to picture how the team is supposed to go together like peanut butter and jelly. All he can think up is a big mess so he shakes the thoughts out of his head. "I could cook those faster than the toaster."

"Eat your breakfast, you were only like five seconds faster." replies Ilya, smirking. He leans against the counter then, his expression bright as he says "It's Saturday. We should do something fun today. Maybe once some others are up, we could go and do something as a group."

Tim gives a frown. "It was faster than five seconds," he remarks, finishing his breakfast sandwich. "I would like that very much. I believe many of our teammates are currently awake."

Ilya just rolls his eyes some at Tim's insistence of accuracy, and waits for his waffles to pop up. "You don't have to be so exact with everything." Ilya then says with a chuckle. "It's okay to estimate sometimes. After all, you're blessed with far more intellect than some of us - myself included."

Tim nods. "I am," he agrees. It's stated as casually as if he were mentioning the sky being blue, not with any arrogance. "His high intellect is part of the reason the third Robin was chosen as part of my genetic make up."

That just causes Ilya to place both hands on the counter and look at Tim. Hard. "Dude. It's creepy when you say stuff like that, even to me. Not to downplay the fact or that you speak the truth.. It's just creepy." he then says. "Plus, the guy's name is Tim."

He pauses, then looks at Tim hard before he says "Tim.. I just realized something. You don't have a full name, do you? Your name is just.. Tim."

Tim's a bit startled by Ilya, staring at him. He looks wide-eyed at the merman, not quite understanding what he did wrong. Eventually he hangs his head. "I am sorry, Ilya. I do not understand why it is creepy though."

The clone then tilts his head to the side. "I am aware."

Immediately feeling bad for his reaction, Ilya ignores his waffles when they pop up and instead moves over closer to Tim. "I'm sorry.." he then says softly, "It's just really hard to hear you talk about your genetic donors with such a dispassionate and.. logical sort of tone. I know that you've only been awake for a couple of months but even I forget that you didn't have a family and didn't grow up like everyone else I know. That's why it's creepy. It's unnatural and wrong that you don't have a family, although I also recognized that you wouldn't be here either, if things had been different. You're the only person I know that comes from three different people and not just two."

Tim listens quietly, frowning slightly. Eventually he looks down again. "I am...unnatural and wrong as well then?"

Tim's reaction causes Ilya's chest to seize, and he reaches out to draw the clone into a warm hug - even if he resists.

"Tim, you are absolutely wonderful just the way you are. You are a sweet soul who's been put through an awful thing, and you just happen to be so innocent and kind spirited that you don't even notice. You are not unnatural and wrong - what they did to you is what was so unnatural and wrong. At the same time, if they had never done what they did, then you wouldn't be here right now. I don't approve of the suffering that they put you through and the suffering that you are going to experience from the way that some scientists mixed you up in a lab and then turned you loose. In the same breath though, I will say that I care very much for you and that I can not imagine my life now without you in it. I am upset at your misfortune because I care."

He then smiles, looking away a bit shyly as he says "Anyways, you do have a family, now. You have the team and all the other Titans, but you also have me and my family is now your family. Maybe we should find you a name, as well. Just Tim isn't nearly as powerful of a name as you deserve."

Tim doesn't resist but he is a little confused. Leaning slightly into the hug, he stays quiet as he listens to Ilya.

"Thank you, Ilya," he eventually replies softly.

He just looks a little confused when the merman goes shy. "I am also called Power Boy. Is that name not powerful?"
