Date Night

Mandy Lord sat alone in her room, staring at the little chalkboard on her desk and the piece of chalk next to it, her hands folded in her lap.

The violet glove forms around the chalk and starts to lift it. The chalk even makse the / of the first A, but then keeps going right off the chalk board and into her ceiling.

So it went. More practice. She looks at the clock. More practice tomorrow. Time to get ready for her date.

And Mandy will be in the skies of New York precisely on time.

"That's a good deal, anyway. And you seem to have your head on pretty straight."

"Thanks."

Speaking not being rash and stupid.... "How's Liv?"

[bfg]

"Tired, sore, getting back to working out. I think she was going to spend some quality alone time with movies and a couch, last I heard. She did say she liked you, maybe you can catch up with her some time."

[kissmeandstopme]

"That's very nice of her." Pause. "Sorry I didn't have a less uncomfortable healing trick, by the way. It's the only one I've got."

"It healed her, that's all that matters." he replies earnestly. "She's my best friend and partner... sparring and work, now. I'm glad you have any trick at all for that."

[kissmeandstopme]

"So...mind an impertinent question?"

[bfg]

"Nothing wrong with those, hit me."

[kissmeandstopme]

"Did you ever try being anything else? I know it's rude to pry, but a girl's got a right to know if she's coming up on the rebound."

[bfg]

He shakes his head. "No. There's been a couple opportunities, maybe. And, you know, I'd have been interested, but she really isn't, and I don't want to wreck what we have trying to push or anything."

And he's pretty sure she wouldn't have given the green light here, otherwise. Right?

"Uh...huh." Well. He seemed trying to be honest.

On this, anyway, he's being entirely honest, to his perceptions.

"How about you? Cute as you are, especially in the battle bikini, you have to have gotten some attention? Any boyfriends or maybes I should know about in the early going here?"

"All-girl school and not into the Until Grad types. So not much dating, really. I'm weird for a Sapphire, I guess. I'll admit, I've had a few considerations, but I keep feeling like they probably wouldn't work out for long, or other people might get hurt."

[bfg]

"S'ok, I'm not precisely your typical yellow lantern, so we can be freaks for our corps together."

[kissmeandstopme]

She laughed. "Sounds good." And...sandwich. Mandy eats hers enthusiasticaly.

Brandon digs into his two sandwiches. Training table diet - which helps keep his budget limited too.

"So how long have you been doing the hero ting?"

[bfg]

"Not long. Practicing with the ring a few weeks. You saw my first big, high profile thing. You?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"About the same, except that I got the time on Zamaron."
She smiles.
"I'll tell you one thing, the... Smurfettes, as it were, may have their abnormalities, but I'd rather have people at risk of mental illness who know it and are willing to make alterations to the way they do things than people who're always sure they're infallible running the show."

[bfg]

"Oh, totally. There's a reason I refused my dad's ring years ago."

[kissmeandstopme]

"I'm kind of surprised he offered."

[bfg]

He shrugs. "He wanted to retire, but he wanted to do it on his terms, not just leave his spot open to whoever the ring liked."

[kissmeandstopme]

"Ahh. Understandable, I guess."

[bfg]

"I always thought so. He was never precisely happy working for the Guardians, and that was when their heads weren't up their collective asses."

[kissmeandstopme]

"Yeah. I've got no idea what they were thinking with the latest mess."

[bfg]

"I don't even want to try and guess. At least we all managed to bail them out. Which seems to be a trend for them."
