Date Night

Mandy Lord sat alone in her room, staring at the little chalkboard on her desk and the piece of chalk next to it, her hands folded in her lap.

The violet glove forms around the chalk and starts to lift it. The chalk even makse the / of the first A, but then keeps going right off the chalk board and into her ceiling.

So it went. More practice. She looks at the clock. More practice tomorrow. Time to get ready for her date.

And Mandy will be in the skies of New York precisely on time.

"The bad goes back before the ring, though... yeah, can see where the yellow ring would be an issue. Still would have figured he'd figure out I was there to help... but then that's Jordan for you."

Mandy sighs. "I suppose one can't expect everybody to get along."

[bfg]

He shrugs. "I got no problems with the rest of the team. So far, anyway. I've known some of them for years... though Liv is closer to a lot of them. I'm guessing you know some of them, from here and there."

[kissmeandstopme]

She nods. "Henry and the boys have been very supportive with the whole, you know, Sapphire thing, and I know several of the others."

Henry, supportive of hanging out with a girl in a battle bikini - this is not surprising, nor does it raise his opinion of Jordan by half a centimeter.

"Maybe you and I could train together? We could both use the finesse-work, it sounds like. I know I could use some tips from someone with formal training."

"That sounds really good. Someone to work with on that stuff should help."

[bfg]

"Yeah, yeah it would. I'm pretty sure Mr. Grant would let us do some work in the gym after hours. Failing that, there's always upper atmosphere and stuff."

[kissmeandstopme]

"I'd like that. I bet it's very... different from the St. Elias gym."

[bfg]

"Yeah, but then Mr. Grant is pretty unique himself. Got to maintain my normal training schedule, but I can definitely manage to work some ringwork in too. And having such an attractive training partner is extra motivation."

[kissmeandstopme]

She smiled. "Why thank you."

[bfg]

"What can I say? Its true."

[kissmeandstopme]

"So... hmm, who else. Do you know Alannah?"

[bfg]

"Yeah, Allanah is a doll. Her dad's brains, her mom's sense. Just about everyone knows the Dibneys."

[kissmeandstopme]

"Yeah, they're great."

[bfg]

"Not surprised you'd know them. Did you have any plans on the whole heroing thing before the ring showed up, or...?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"Not really. Too many health risks, to be honest. Constant temptation to use my metagene stuff, and that's just not a good idea for so many reasons."

[bfg]

"That's fair enough. So what're your long term plans now?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"Sign up for reserve status at the least, maybe more, as school allows. School probably will allow; my grades don't slip easily."

[bfg]

"Ok, so what're you studying, and what's the plan for... whatever it is?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"I'm in my last year at St. Elias's. Have the applications ready for UPenn, NYU, UVA, Notre Dame, Berkeley, Stanford, Georgetown, and Carnegie Mellon. Going to major in Finance. I'll fit helping out with the Little League any way I can around that."

[bfg]

He whistles. "Impressive lists. Full academic scholarship, I'm guessing?"

[kissmeandstopme]

Mandy shrugs. "The ones that offer them competitiely, I didn't apply for it. I have a college fund. The people I'd be competing with usually don't. It seemed wasteful."

[bfg]

"Ok, that makes sense. I'm sure the family name doesn't hurt in some circles either. If you get multiple acceptances, where do you want to go?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"Yeah, there are plenty of places where that still doesn't hurt. And some places, well, I'd like Berkeley, but there are just some places it seems better not to be from a corporate overlord family, so I might lean more towards UPenn or NYU."

[bfg]

"Well, if you end up at NYU, I can show you around the city and all. I'm sure the Star Sapphire thing would go over well at Berkley though." If anyone ever looked at her face long enough in the outfit to figure out who she was... so... her secret identity is probably safe.
