London.
He can hardly believe it. He's really here.
He wishes his mother could be here to see this. She may not have gotten the boxing thing, but she understood dreams. Was the first one, and with one exception, for a long time, was the only one who told him he could really follow those dreams, be something, if he just reached for it.
There's a lot of preparation yet. Boxing isn't the first thing by any means. He doesn't know who his opponents will be yet, and so a lot of the time is being spent studying the most likely possibilities. There's seeding and draws, plus, of course, Ted trying to help make sure he's not being overwhelmed by the spectacle of it all.
He's passed the physical and drug tests though, and most importantly, made the team - and not even as an alternate. He'll have his chance to compete. He's not one of the favorites. He knows its only that he's a protege of Ted Grant's that he even got the chance - but then he had to earn his way onto the team. The Cubans are, as usual, favored over any of the Americans, and there's a wide field - but he'll get his chance.
And its all just hitting him now, as he waits in the wings to get ready to take the walk with the other American athletes at opening ceremonies.
