Musical Medbay

Josh normally hated space. Even going into orbit freaked him out a bit. But thankfully the Watchtower had enough life on it that he could remain on board comfortably even if it was just plants and small animals. After school, he's taken a detour up to the Watchtower to take care of something that had been bothering him.

He was fixing up the Infirmary. Things were being rearranged, some labels reprinted so they could be read more easily, and the computer interface being re-learned. Lifeforce had decided he was the team doctor after all and wanted to make sure the infirmary was in top form in the event they needed it. And as he tends to when he's not paying attention to his senses and thinks he's more alone than he actually is, the masked healer's singing.

"And so you fell into the danger and you're all alone tonight. Well you're surrounded by the hooded type and you just don't care for the sight. We will come running to your side, we will protect you from your fright. All of us are on your side! We'll take then...we'll take them down! Fight!....Fight!...Fight!...Fight!"

And Josh is pretty good at singing.

Mandy had gone up to the station to see if a helping hand could lent, get her mind off of... Stuff.

She paused in a doorway behind Josh. Aww, Josh. Such a sweetheart. And very talented. She was so glad that Henry and Ava had him.

At the end of the song, she applauded.

Really, when he was focused on singing or just off in space was the perfect time to sneak up on Josh if you weren't a robot or dead. The sound of applause as well as suddenly paying attention to his senses startled the teen.

He let out a startled yelp and spun around, tripping and falling on his backside. This sent the bandages he was carrying up in the air. They came down over his head as he blushed furiously.

"Mandy?"

"Hi! Oh dear..." she goes to help him pick the bandages back up.

Josh stays red as he picks things up. "Umm...how long were you there?"

"It was a great song. Were we each other's type, I'd totally be swooning," she says earnestly.

That doesn't help Josh's blushing problem. Just makes it worse.

"Umm...thanks. I heard it online while I was doing a little research..."

"What kind of research?"

[healingbug]

"Umm I was..." Josh glanced around then leaned over to whisper. "I was looking up information on these TV shows I like to watch..."

Mandy smiles. "That's awesome."

"It...is?" Josh blinked a few times. He'd been thinking that Mandy would laugh at him.

"Sure! It's good to be more informed about stuff you like. Now, personally, I think the Dairangers had a better theme song, but everyone's going to have a different opinion there!"

Josh stared in shock. He had not been expecting that at all. "I loved the Dairanger theme too and would probably sing a Sentai song or two if my Japanese weren't so bad..." he trailed off, smiling. "Been hooked on the Gokaiger theme lately. And that song they played a few episodes ago...Pirates Girls."

"Haven't seen that episode yet. I'll have to give it a try sometime. I've watched a lot of Sentai stuff to improve my Japanese, after I got frustrated with my favorite anime for -- well, it's a long story, but the writer exhibited some sudden... extreme insensitivity about sexuality issues. Pissed me off"

Mandy saying that she was pissed off may sound very weird.

"I've got them all on my computer back home if you want them," Josh offers. "What happened in you anime?" he was curious now. "And which one was it?"

"The princess, who's biologically male, and has been madly in love with the hot emperor the entire series, decides suddenly to get a hair cut, wear male clothes, and be in love with the priestess like all the other boys, the perfectly reasonable portrayal of a transgendered character in the series so far suddenly rejected as a passing phase. Made me so mad..."

"Oh man..." Josh frowned. "That would make me pretty mad too."

[kissmeandstopme]

"Yeah. I really loved Fushigi Yugi; it was a beautiful show, but that dismissal of someone's chosen identity and lifelong love in favor of the 'natural' course really ruined it for me. But I'd love to check out those episodes with you sometime."

[healingbug]

"Maybe they caved under pressure from the network," Josh suggested. He gave a little snort though. "Like they have any idea what's natural..." he muttered.

"In-deed," Mandy concurs.

[healingbug]

"So what brings you up to the Watchtower today?"

[kissmeandstopme]

"Just hoping I could help with something!"

[healingbug]

And immediately Josh is checking Mandy for injuries or sickness, his expression one of concern behind that mask. "What's wrong? What can I help with?"

"I'm fine, Josh. I just... need my mind off of things."

[healingbug]

Josh frowns, only relaxing a little. "Okay...how can I help then?" he asks, still concerned.

[kissmeandstopme]

"Well, what needs doing up here today that a finance specialist wouldn't botch?"

[healingbug]

Josh glances around and then chuckles. "Well I've just been reorganizing the infirmary. I put clearer labels on everything and I've been arranging them in a new way so they'll be easier for anyone not trained in stuff to find in case there's an emergency before I can be here. I could use some help putting it all back on the shelves."

"Great! I can totally help there."

[healingbug]

Josh smiles and nods, leading the way over to the supplies he's got arranged by where they need to go on the shelves. "I noticed everything was set up for a doctor when I was in here last and really, how many of us are medical doctors?"

"That's a valid point."

[healingbug]

"I'm not even a doctor," Josh admits. "This way things will be set up to be easier for everyone."
